Travel in the modern world is going to have an impact on the environment, so I have a big problem with the concept of “Green Travel.” Shouldn’t it be - “If you are Green, then don’t Travel”? I would characterize this as the “Penny wise, pound foolish” aspect of being Green. It seems to be “okay” to ignore your impact when on vacation. To highlight this - our “do no evil” friends at Google have developed a Green travel mashup site. You have got to be joking me, right? Green travel is moronic, but Google’s Official Blog is all over it like tomorrow’s hottest fad. Well, good luck with that - I think I will just take a walk around the block.

Deep Pockets is how GOOD Magazine’s Blog titled an entry about our working with Carbonfund.org. Great title, but shallow pockets. But even better concept - GOOD Magazine is “a new voice in media” that “embraces this generation’s merger of capitalism and idealism.” The first issue is not due until September 2006, but you can subscribe now. Only $20 and that $20 actually goes to a charity. Now, that is a sweet deal. You can choose from 12 different charity organizations - all worthy. Hey, they linked back to me, so I couldn’t NOT subscribe. I chose Millennium Promise - “helping to end poverty in Africa, one village at a time.”
Capitalism and Idealism - I like the sound of that.

Looks like Treehugger picked up on our efforts (working with Carbonfund.org) to get people excited about offsetting carbon emissions with a nice article “Blog Trades Carbon Offsets for Links“. For anyone visiting from Treehugger, just wanted to let you know that you can check the link count over at Technorati. Hmmm… Looks like about 147 links so far - hopefully we can increase that number. Be sure to check with Carbonfund.org and see what they are up to and make a donation. Remember - they are a non-profit.
Just to highlight - we are tracking links via Technorati - so, if you PING Technorati after you make a post - they will track down the link.

Just a brief note to point everyone to a press release announcing Carbonfund.org and DeepMarket working together. Here is an excerpt from the release:
According to the program, Deepmarket.com, which is already a supporter of Carbonfund.org and has offset its carbon footprint, will offset one ton of carbon dioxide emissions with Carbonfund.org for every blog that links to Deepmarket.com. The program costs fellow bloggers nothing to participate.
Remeber to visit Carbonfund.org and read up on all the different programs in which they are invovled!

Did you know the highest high for Microsoft was $53.44 in December of 1999? Not surprising since that was at the height of the last stock bubble. How about the largest number of Google shares traded in a day? It was over 41 million shares on 20 Jan of 2006. And you guessed it - that was only about two weeks after Google reached its all-time high of $471. That sounds like a lot of shares, right? How about the time Oracle had 1 Billion shares traded? That is billion - with a B - and was on 9 Dec 1997.
Just some fun - potentially worthless - facts that I pulled from the stock database. Click around the historical section for other mind-numbing trivia.
