Twitter Stock
I have started to capture a steady Twitter stock stream into a database. It will take a while to get a majority of the ticker symbols, but over the next couple of days we will have enough to start doing some interesting analysis. Over the last several weeks I was always too tired to sit down and write the basic routines to capture the stream, but I was up late tonight watching “Dark Days in Monkey City” and suddenly had a surge of motivation. Isn’t that the way things always happen? I got things working about an hour ago and the database already has 2000 stock tweets. Will it continue to capture at 2000 tweets per hour? (This is capturing historical data – there are not 2000 fresh stock tweets per hour – certainly not pre-dawn Sunday morning!).
You can see the basic info for any stock by going to http://www.deepmarket.com/stream/goog and replace “goog” with the symbol you are interested in. Like AMZN, SUN, ORCL, CSCO…
Yeah, kind of boring right now, huh? Once we get a decent amount of data in the database, then we can start doing some interesting analysis. I have my own ideas, but am very open to suggestions for tools that people are looking to see implemented.
Some motivating links for future reference…
