Repliqa in Alpha
Repliqa is now in Alpha. I got an invite a couple of days ago and have tried it out. It is invitation only for the moment, so head over there to request an invitation or read the Repliqa Blog to get the full story. They recently began tracking websites, so be sure to recommend Deep Market! I pulled this from their About page:
From any online source, Repliqa discovers, prioritizes and delivers what matters for each user
Repliqa solves two problems. It aggregates content from various online sources and ranks this content according to the likelihood that a unique user will enjoy it. The retrieval, prioritization and ranking of content and the automatic delivery of this information is what we summarize with the term discovery. Content is specified by any kind of web objects like websites, blogs, news, music, movies, pictures, people profiles on social networks, books, hotels, restaurants, events etc.
Aggregation
As the quantity of information on the Internet increases exponentially, computer users are using hundreds if not thousands of different web pages and Internet-based applications. This massive fragmentation of relevant content sources is currently addressed by portals (e.g. Yahoo) or start pages (e.g. Netvibes) or RSS readers or hyper-aggregation pages (e.g. OriginalSignal) providing a central location for accessing frequently used programs and data. However no great prioritization mechanism has been developed, yet.
Discovery
As the quantity of information on the Internet increases exponentially, finding relevant information becomes both cumbersome and time consuming. Current “web2.0” applications attempt to address this problem by focusing on the popularity of objects (videos, blogs, songs, etc.) in order to deliver “good” information to the user. This object-centered philosophy is flawed because that which is ranked as “popular” is, by definition, of maximal interest only to the average user. What a specific consumer needs is to have information delivered that is relevant for him specifically as opposed to being popular for users in general.
Repliqa combines the aggregation of start pages and the power of generalized discovery to form a new concept: Repliqa is a discovery page using a superior prioritization engine in the background
Repliqa delivers users’ content to a discovery page where they can discover, learn, play, listen, watch, read, connect and find a personal on-line experience tailored specifically to each individual.
