Hey BAD bloggers!
It’s almost that time of year again, and this time I have some exciting news to announce.
When we started Blog Action Day two years ago, we had no idea how large it would become. Now that it’s grown beyond our wildest [...]
The Keyword Minute special report is causing a stir on the interwebs. I just downloaded it and read through it quickly. Pretty much the bottom line is that is is getting everyone salivating over the new release of Keyword Elite. Fair enough – it is free (well, with [...]
JS-Kit Echo is in public BETA. I am looking forward to seeing how well this works on DeepMarket. I do not have it fully integrated into WordPress yet, as I am presently using DISQUS for comments. I have been very happy with DISQUS, so the test for Echo is on the stock [...]
Upgraded to WordPress 2.8. To be honest, I don’t see anything different yet. The Admin panel looks the same. They claim much better performance, so that is good news but I can’t really tell a difference just yet.
DeepMarket has been using Wordpress since release 2.0 and it has served us well. Right now we are on 2.7 and I just saw that WordPress 2.8 has been released as of last night. This sounds good:
Major New Improvements
First and foremost, 2.8 is way faster to use. We’ve changed the way WordPress does [...]
Be sure to read DeepMarket’s Privacy Policy – in a nutshell – You Have No Privacy – Get Over It.
What is the DoubleClick DART cookie?
The DoubleClick DART cookie is used by Google in the ads served on publisher websites displaying AdSense for content ads. When users visit an AdSense publisher’s website and either view or [...]
I am seeing the Google ToolBar PageRank in flux for various sites. DeepMarket is jumping from 3 – which it is now – and between PR2 and PR6. Just flux? Or is Google planning on stimulating the economy with some high PR for deserving web sites (aka DeepMarket). Hmmm… Links [...]
Or beware. Here is the deal – DeepMarket uses AdSense ads to make money that supports the hosting of this website. Google is now adding new capabilities for the advertisers that track the activity of users. If you are honestly worried about Google tracking you, the DO NOT USE DEEPMARKET. Sorry, [...]
UPDATE: Yeap, it looks like it is fixed now.
Am I the only one? I am seeing every site in a Google search with the warning “This site may harm your computer.” – even Google sites:
Curious, no?

Silly me, I thought StumbleUpon had banned me. Well, they banned me from the free service, but are more than willing to accept my money for advertising:
Dear StumbleUpon Advertiser-
With marketing budgets shrinking and the need to stretch your advertising dollar greater than ever, there’s never been a better time to try StumbleUpon Advertising [...]

The best part about the Website Grader? That the DeepMarket readability score is “Primary / Elementary School” – is that good or bad?
Thanks for the “shout out” from John Chow and the Dot Com Pho Crew.

Some advertisements that I generally expect to see in Google AdSense ads are things like mortgage services, payday loans, get rich quick schemes and a whole host of other services and products. I see the occasional DWI attorney ad, but I wasn’t really prepared for this ad:
Curious targeting, huh? I guess you would [...]

The two top sites to send traffic to DeepMarket in 2008 are The Kirk Report and News Flashr. Both of these sites have provided an excellent stream of high quality readers. I can only hope that DeepMarket is returning the favor. There were 30 sites in 2008 that really provided the majority [...]
I love StumbleUpon – I have literally been using it since they had a hundred some odd members. Heck, I liked it so much that I actually donated $25 to the site back in December 2003 – here is the thank you note from Geoff Smith (founder of SU):
Hi Eric,
Thank you very [...]
Last PageRank update for 2008 (or is it the first PageRank update for 2009?) seems to be rolling out to all the Google ToolBar users. DeepMarket went from a PR2 to PR3. yawn. A couple years ago we were PR6 – that was pretty cool, but we are [...]
I am not sure what compels me to write about the so curiously titled infomercial product called The Arbitrage Conspiracy – perhaps the list price of $1997. Really? $1997 to learn the secrets of Pay Per Click arbitrage? Honest to goodness arb opportunities have dried up in the Adwords to [...]
It looks like the Toolbar PageRank is updating for some of my websites. For example, kulturevulture.org has moved from a PR5 to a PR3. It has also lost PR on all internal pages. Granted, we could be in the midst of a PageRank export misfire – webmasters really flip out when Google [...]
Just in time for Depression 2009! Google’s AdWords will allow advertisers to sell their hard alcohol and liqueurs in the U.S.
For example, under the hard alcohol and liqueurs policy, you might market to individuals searching for helpful and relevant alcohol-related information by promoting holiday cocktail ideas or the caloric content [...]
Ethan Gahng from the Psolenoid team has been very responsive to all my questions. My most recent concern was finding other blogs that are using Psolenoid and here is Ethan’s response:
Eric, Ethan Gahng from Great question! Psolenoid helps bloggers find other blogs and related posts whenever a blogger wires their post to your post. [...]
I have a question for the Psolenoid team or anyone else that might have an answer. How do I find other blogs using Psolenoid?
I know about the Psolenoid blog. I can log into my account and find blogs that have wired to my blog. And that is it. Any plans for [...]
To put it mildly, I am anti-social. So, “social networking” is a painful activity that I have to put effort into. Twitter never held any interest for me and to be honest, I am still not very interested but figured I would try it out. So, now you can follow reader’s digest [...]
Psolenoid is is a new service that I am trying out. You add a bit of JavaScript to your WordPress blog theme. Below all your posts is a Psolenoid widget where people can link a contextually relevant blog post to your post – as long as they also are using Psolenoid. I [...]
Chris Brogan has a cool get yourself a link page on his blog – I figured it was worthy of a link back.
So, Chris is doing a good deed by allowing bloggers to get links from an authority blog (his). I submit my link and BLAM! chrisbrogan.com goes down. I hope it [...]
Rich Swier wrote a thoughtful critique of my criticism of Fast Pitch Networking. He brought up some excellent points and I want to be clear about my issues with Fast Pitch. Here is his comment from my blog post:
I understand your frustration, but perhaps there are other factors at play here [...]
When I first started DeepMarket I was very aggressive with optimization for organic search results, but I had left out an important part of the equation. At that time, I did not work on a long-tail keyword approach, but instead tried to win by breaking into the Google results for Stock Market. It [...]
BlogRush is shutting down its service. The basic idea was to have a widget that showed blog posts from blogs that were similar to your own. One basic problem I saw with the network was a very limited set of “categories” that your blog needed to fit into. It seemed that you [...]
Huh? I thought I paid my $81 for this quarter already, but when I log into my FastPitchNetworking account I get the following message:
