Just upgraded to WordPress 2.7. So far, so good.

Psolenoid – Private Trackbacks?

Psolenoid is is a new service that I am trying out. You add a bit of JavaScript to your WordPress blog theme. Below all your posts is a Psolenoid widget where people can link a contextually relevant blog post to your post – as long as they also are using Psolenoid. I see it as a “Private Trackbacking System.” I am reserving my ultimate judgment on Psolenoid, but here are the problems I see so far:

- A small nit-pick – they didn’t require a valid email to sign-up. Hello SPAMbots! I am sure this will be implemented after the 10 billionth user signs up.

- Trackbacks work for me fine – is Psolenoid solving a problem?

- Spammers can create links in Psolenoid just like Trackback SPAM. Yes, you can delete a Psolenoid link after the fact, but do I need another SPAM queue to filter through everyday?

- The video makes that point that finding related posts is difficult. Psolenoid does not solve that problem – people still need to make the connection between the posts via Psolenoid. Automatically connecting relevant blogs posts between blogs is the solution that Arkayne is developing. Maybe Psolenoid and Arkayne can get together – I think Arkayne has much more interesting technology.

Sometimes I miss the value of a product or service until I actually use it, so I am using Psolenoid and I encourage everyone else to try it out. This is one of those services that will require a large number of users before it becomes useful. Installing it was easy and uninstalling it will be just as easy.

Dexter – Upgrade to 2.3 WordPress

Okay, we are up to date with the latest version of WordPress 2.3 – Dexter. I have not noticed anything new or different really yet.

Upgraded to WP 2.2.2

I seems I always wait until the last minute to get an upgrade for WordPress, but since everyone was talking about the potential security problems with the latest release of WP, I figured now was a good time to upgrade. Okay, we are at WordPress 2.2.2 now – the absolute latest version!

Upgraded to WP 2.1

Backup up everything and upgraded to WordPress 2.1. So far, all the plugins work (all three of them) as does everything else. I honestly don’t see the major improvements in speed that many other people have noticed, but perhaps it is there and I am just missing it for now.

What is the longest title that you can have in WordPress and the DigitalPoint RSS will still display the whole thing?

I just had to ask – I keep seeing very short titles for blog articles over at DigitalPoint, so I figured I would see what the limit might be.

Upgraded to WP 2.0.7

I kept waiting and waiting and waiting for WordPress 2.10 to come out, but after the nasty security bugs found in older versions of WP, I decided to go ahead and upgrade to 2.0.7. Hopefully this works our okay!

DeepMarket Upgrades Theme

It is pretty obvious that DeepMarket upgraded to a new WordPress theme – finally! We have Colleen from Mystical Twilight to thank for developing our custom WordPress theme. If you have a need for a new theme, be sure to contact Colleen or check our her free WordPress themes. Right now you see the new theme in the “blog” section of DeepMarket, but not in the data areas – such as Stock and Correlation areas. We will get everything integrated over time. We had also upgraded to the most recent version of WordPress, so we are juggling implementing new features and balancing with possible performance issues.

I wanted to highlight one of the WordPress plugins that was added today. The quality of comments on the posting here has been pretty high. Since WordPress defaults to “nofollow” tags on links in comments, I decided to remove that with the Dofollow plugin for WordPress from Semiologic. I appreciate the excellent feedback I get via comments and want to encourage good behavior with live links back to contributors – thanks!

Testing the RSS Feeds

Upgrade the server to Fedora Core 5 and finally got WordPress upgraded to the latest version. Not sure if my feeds are working correctly, so this post is not exactly user friendly or very interesting.
