Snowing in Fairfax - An Inconvenient Truth

Through the wonders of Netflix, I finally took the time and sat down to watch An Inconvenient Truth - staring Al Gore.  Golly, and what a star.  I though the movie was about global climate change - but it ended up being a movie about Al Gore’s ill-fated run for the presidency.  I also learned that Al used to grow and sell one of the deadliest drugs to hit the streets of the US - tobacco.  Gore also crashed the family car when he was much younger (perhaps the carbon fumes muddled his driving).  He also showed a poor anime polar bear suffering from the climatic changes - not sure why they couldn’t find a real polar bear - they could have borrowed one from LOST.  Oh - and beyond the story line staring Mr. Gore, there were some interesting points about “global warming.”  My favorite is:

Many years ago, all scientists were in agreement that the continents do not move - it was a “fact”.  For instance, the silly coincidence that the east coast of South America and the west coast of Africa seemed to fit together like two puzzle pieces was dismissed as that - just a coincidence.  Now we now that the continents are constantly moving and have been drifting about the globe for billions of years.

Curious.  Well, according to Mr. Gore - pretty much the entire scientific community is convinced that “global warming” is a “fact”.

I think it would be safer to say that the more “facts” we seem to think we know - the better it is to question those “facts.”  It is 23 degrees and snowing in Fairfax, Virginia - an inconvenient truth.

  1. Hey, I was about to pop in An Inconvenient Truth and nestle in for some interesting comedic performances. Actually, I am quite interested in the movie, but also knowing that it could be a political ploy.

I’m up in Rockville, MD and it sure is snowing here too!

  2. Hey Clever -

I hope I didn’t ruin the ending for you. Certainly watch it and let me know if I was too harsh. I think I was expecting a but, uh, more considering it was supposed to be the “must see movie of 2006.”
