How to change JVM in MATLAB for Linux
I have intended - for many many years now - to try out MATLAB or Mathematica for doing some more advanced analysis of the stock market - and those intentions have remained just that. Good intentions. The sad fact is - I often end up just using Excel for quick and dirty work. I did want to point out this article about how to change MATLAB’s JVM under Linux for several reasons:
- It is a hack or a mod - hacks and modifications are good, as they represent evolution
- I do the vast majority of my work in Java
- Linux is my favorite OS at the moment
- I intend to use MATLAB in the next 20 years or so - just as I had intended to use it in the past 20 years
Check that one article and encourage Keith to keep writing at Mathematical Tools and Programming Languages - several more of my favorite things.

Thanks for dropping by. MATLAB is indeed an extremely powerful tool equipped with advanced toolboxes that any researcher or programmer can get hold on. The only drawback is that MATLAB is quite costly, even if it’s only for a single-user license.
I am currently working in the area of Machine Learning, which is also closely related to stochastic modelling of Nonlinear systems, such as stock market analysis. A good know-how on stochastic variable modelling is exceptionally good for those who are dealing with unknown system with unknown parameters.
