Intel’s Quad Core for $266 – Q6600
Talk about a major cut in price – Intel is dropping the price of the Q6600 – a QUAD core processor – from $530 to $266. This is great for everyone except: AMD and anyone who bought a computer in the last couple of weeks. A quad core processor for $266? Is there really any reasonable reason to NOT get this in your next PC? And I have historically been an AMD fan, so it is tough to admit. I had really expected my next computer to have an AMD chip in it, but the Phenom isn’t due until 2008 (“first quarter”), even the Barcelona isn’t due until Sep 10th and the X2 is stuck at 6000. I am cheering for AMD, but for the near-term – Intel is on top of price/performance.
