Netflix Prize – 2008 Progress Prize Winner?
Not officially announced yet, but I just saw this email from the Netflix Prize team:
As of October 2, 2008 00:00:00 UTC, we have stopped gathering submissions for the 2008 Progress Prize. There is 1 submission from 1 team that meets the minimum requirements for this Progress Prize. We will report, as soon as possible, when and if we have a verified winner for this Progress Prize.
In the meantime, we continue to accept submissions for the Grand Prize.
Good luck and thank you for your continued participation!
The Netflix Prize is a data mining contest to help Netflix improve their collaborative filtering process that recommends movies to customers based on flicks they have rated. The recommendation engine pretty much only has information about what a user has seen and how they rated those movies. A fun data mining problem – a lot of data – and a $1 million grand prize. Every year there is a progress prize to the tune of $50,000 - not too shabby!
