Friction in the Work Environment

I left the corporate culture about four years ago, but I can still remember one of the biggest wastes of time in my busy day. Okay, well - second to the commute. Would the top of your list be meetings? Surprisingly enough, it wasn’t what I was talking about. For me, it was actually waiting for meetings OR scheduling meetings OR find a room to have a meeting. The people I worked with were pretty good in meetings and we would plow through our agenda with military precision. However, the buildings we were in had a deficit of meeting rooms. This lack of rooms made for some serious friction when one meeting would bleed into the time slot for another meeting - thus leaving a lot of people waiting outside the meeting room waiting for the room to become available. Not what you want when you have 10-20 billable people not billing a customer. I still have some friends in the rat race and will recommend that they take a look at some scheduling software that might help to reduce this major cause of friction. Of course, not matter how good the software is - people have to use it. Now, get out - I had this room scheduled starting over 20 minutes ago!
