Thoof

A new social voting system is out there – Thoof. It looks like it is getting some traction – the traffic to the site is definitely up a great deal. Thoof describes it self as being able to deliver personalized news – a cool concept that requires feedback from people to help build a good understanding of what you are interested in reading about. So, Thoof works both way – it helps the reader get to the information they want to hear about – and they help leverage the publishers works with new tools, like the ThoofRank Badge:

That is the ThoofRank Badge for this blog entry. After I wrote up this article, I jumped over to Thoof (I had already signed up for the service) and submitted my blog entry. If you are familiar with other voting sites – then the process is similar to others. You give Thoof the URL of your article, a short title and then a description summary of the article. Once that is submitted, you are given a ThoofRank Badge that can be embedded into your article. Thoof is not just replicating other “badges” out there – they are trying to add some new value with ThoofRank, which is described as:

…a fair measurement of how interesting a story is to readers with interests in common with the story.

It will be interesting to see how ThoofRank compares to other voting site measures. Inserting the badge into your blog post or article is easy with WordPress, but I have not tried it on any other blogging platform. From a publishers side, it will be fun to see how much traffic comes from Thoof. As a reader of Thoof, I am looking forward to seeing how well it gives me the news I want to read.
