Georgia Guidestones – America’s Stonehenge
I just finished reading an article in the most recent edition of Wired magazine about the Georgia Guidestones. What a curious story. The monument was built in the late 1970′s in Elbert County, Georgia. Oddly enough, the group that financed the construction of the Guidestones wishes to remain anonymous forever more. The phrase “Let these be guidestones to an age of reason” is the introduction to ten “commandments” (suggestions? warnings?) inscribed on the tablets:
Maintain humanity under 500,000,000 in perpetual balance with nature.
Guide reproduction wisely – improving fitness and diversity.
Unite humanity with a living new language.
Rule passion – faith – tradition – and all things with tempered reason.
Protect people and nations with fair laws and just courts.
Let all nations rule internally resolving external disputes in a world court.
Avoid petty laws and useless officials.
Balance personal rights with social duties.
Prize truth – beauty – love – seeking harmony with the infinite.
Be not a cancer on the earth – Leave room for nature – Leave room for nature.
The inscriptions are written in English, Spanish, Swahili, Hindi, Hebrew, Arabic, Chinese, and Russian (what? no Navajo or Esperanto?)
I am an X-Phile, so it is kind of fun digging into weird things like this…
